It was by chance that the founders of IoT.nxt fell into the industrial internet of things (IIoT) business.
Their software integration business was working in the security sector, where, on one particular project, they were tasked with the integration of over 14 different systems and sub-systems with real data coming from installed sensors. They engaged the large global players and found that there was no existing solution to solve their massive interoperability challenge, with the market either focusing on deep analytics and big data, or having sensor-type solutions that could send information to the cloud. There was no solution focusing on intelligent, agnostic interoperability across the eco-system. They set about developing their solution in South Africa and, given our local constraints of poor and intermittent connectivity, large reliance of legacy plant and equipment, poor and often manual controls and resistance to dollar-based pricing, ended up with a solution that has solved the major hurdles holding back the industrial internet of things – interoperability and intelligent workflow on the edge. IoT.nxt’s innovation arose organically based on the need to integrate multiple physical and virtual systems together from multiple vendors in very constrained environments.
Coincidently, IoT.nxt solved challenges that are as important to the first world as they are to the developing world. As the volume and size of data continues to grow at an exponential rate, having edge-based analytics and intelligent workflow allows data to be managed at the edge without constraining the network unnecessarily. This is the edge eating the cloud, and it’s where we see a large amount of work being done as the IoT industry pushes forward.
Despite being born out of a nondescript office park in a corner of Centurion, we’ve managed to rack up a number of awards in the short 2 years we’ve been open. It’s not just out significant others that have noticed the hard work and long hours that have gone into getting where we are.
Our technology-agnostic, end-to-end platform incorporates hardware, gateway technology and software platforms, making us one of the only pure-play IoT solution providers, and giving our clients a solid foundation on which to base their digitalisation strategies. Our mission to create an interoperable business ecosystem, incorporating legacy equipment, sets us apart. We’ve been recognised by both Gartner and Davinci TT100 for innovation, are Microsoft and Deloitte Partners and were just named best overall IoT solution in SA, and the best Commercial solution by MTN.
Next stop? We’re heading to the IoT Solutions World Conference in Barcelona this October to truly go head to head with the best in the world, and see our technology performing alongside some of the most innovative and forward thinking technology on the market.
