Problems Solved: IoT Integration

Management

RunMyProcess July 2019

Automate edge to enterprise and simplify the management of your business by integrating legacy infrastructure, equipment, and devices with your enterprise systems and processes.

Businesses today require solutions that fully leverage all critical data points to improve the ecosystem in which they are operating. They need to know at any time where all their assets and people are deployed and what functions they are carrying out.

Providing such edge data across disparate systems and business units can be a daunting challenge. Correctly implemented, however, it can increase a company’s efficiency, productivity, and overall market performance.

Without the ability to seamlessly integrate edge data and output with business processes and enterprise applications (legacy and new), the data – though valuable – may become isolated in silos, limiting its potential value of transforming the wider operations of the organization.

IsoMetrix and IoT.nxt partner for tailings technology

Tailings Dam

MINING REVIEW AFRICA 26 July 2019

IsoMetrix, a global leader in integrated risk management solutions for the mining industry in partnership with IoT.nxt, have developed an innovative approach to effective tailings management that integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) with world-leading management software.

IoT.nxt and IsoMetrix presented solution for tailings management at the International Tailings Management Conference in Chile mid-July.

“Participating at the conference allows us to better understand what Tailings Managers need from a management system, gauge our offering against other leading providers, engage with tailings experts, and expose our offering to the market,” says Robin Bolton, Executive Head: Sustainability at IsoMetrix.

“The IsoMetrix Tailings Management Solution offers environmental managers the ability to view and analyze monitoring data to assess trends and compliance, but also the ability to manage incidents, audits, inspections and to conduct risk assessments on all tailings related activities to ensure that the facility’s risk profile is acceptable, and that any issues or findings are dealt with and closed out,” says Robin Bolton, Executive Head: Sustainability at IsoMetrix.

He explains that the benefit to mines – or any operation that has large operational waste storage facilities – is managing compliance and risks, conducting analytics on all the data and providing information quickly through alerts, reports or dashboards.

“With our partners, we engage with vendors, practitioners and researchers to develop integrated workflow tools that can manage the large datasets coming from land-based instrumentation and remote sensing technologies,” explains Robin.

He adds that IsoMetrix seeks to strengthen operational management practices for the design, operation, and closure of conventionally managed tailings storage facilities (TSFs).

“The aim is to deliver improvements to existing controls and monitoring solutions in the short-term,” he says.

IoT.nxt collaborates with UFS to develop future tech leaders

MEDIA STATEMENT

Centurion, South Africa. – 23 July 2019. Leading Internet of Things company, IoT.nxt, has entered into a partnership with the University of the Free State (UFS) to support education for Data Science students and drive the development of future leaders in technology and technology innovation.

IoT.nxt is working with the academics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Agricultural Sciences to guide the development of curricula, and the company’s executives will also guest lecture and share corporate experience about what the latest applications of data science can deliver to business and industry.

“The support of education drives in the field of technology has been a key focus as IoT.nxt expanded and this initiative is the next step of our expanded programme. We have created opportunities for interns shortly after the establishment of IoT.nxt and will now take our project one step further with the UFS partnership,” says Nico Steyn, IoT.nxt CEO.

“Data scientist was listed as the top tech job in the USA last year by Glassdoor, one of the biggest global recruitment websites, for the 3rd consecutive year. We have exceptional, talented young people in South Africa interested in a career in tech. However, there is an industry-wide shortage of qualified people and a growing demand for students to graduate with a qualification suited to what businesses require. Our company, and the vibrant broader technology industry in SA, needs such graduates and through our partnership with UFS will aim to drive interest in this career,” Steyn says.

According to Steyn IoT.nxt selected the UFS for this partnership as it views the university as one of the leading institutions providing education in this field, and to some degree, because many UFS alumni – including co-founders of IoT.nxt – are UFS graduates.

“The partnership with IoT.nxt will open new opportunities for our students and staff, not only to work with one of the most innovative companies in the country but also be exposed to new and creative ways of thinking, all in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). We also believe the partnership will strengthen our academic program, especially in data science, and prepare our students to be ready for the ever-changing world of technology,” says Dr Eduan Kotzé, Academic Departmental Head of Computer Science and Informatics.

In addition to its ongoing intern programme and the UFS partnership, IoT.nxt also supports the Belgian Campus ITversity in Pretoria and many of the interns who obtained work experience at IoT.nxt are students of this technology focused institution.

Internet of Things, quantum computing emerge as new growth frontier

Internet of Things, quantum

by Elitsa Bakalova, Technology Business Research — July 2, 2019 .

HAMPTON, N.H. – Data is exploding, and vendors are preparing to accommodate this trend by effectively managing, storing, securing and analyzing data and by driving business results through next-generation solutions.

During Atos’ Technology Days, recently, Atos CEO Thierry Breton stated that while 80% of data is currently stored in data centers and in the cloud, that percentage is forecast to shrink to 20% by 2025 as clients seek ways to analyze data in real time at the edge, where it is created. Pioneering emerging technology development, such as IoT, edge computing and quantum computing, enables vendors to expand their addressable market and cross-sell and upsell their services offerings.

While traditional IT services remain key revenue contributors for many of the 29 IT services vendors that TBR covers in its IT Services Vendor Benchmark, portfolio innovations create new areas of growth. Gaining a first-mover advantage in emerging segments enables vendors to attract clients with practical use cases for new technologies across industries.

TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIPS AND ACQUISITIONS ENABLE VENDORS TO EXPAND IOT PORTFOLIOS AND CAPTURE NEW AREAS OF GROWTH DURING 2019

While IoT solutions will often span several services, they are usually confined to one vertical, guiding vendors’ IoT-led partnerships and portfolio development. IoT intrinsically cuts across both vendor and customer categories, transforming and connecting business operations. Vendors expand their portfolios to guide customers on how to implement and manage IoT solutions.

However, some vendors lack portfolio depth around critical IoT capabilities, such as operational technology (OT), and predictive analytics and data management, that allow customers to proactively manage equipment and reduce costs associated with downtime. To fill these portfolio gaps, we expect vendors to forge relationships and make acquisitions that support development of vertical-oriented IoT solutions.

EXAMPLES OF VENDORS’ RECENT ACTIVITIES

Fujitsu partnered with Coast Research Engineering Co. to develop an IoT solution for aquaculture and marine clients. The solution will monitor water quality and temperature from aquamarine tanks to support aquaculture. Fujitsu RunMyProcess partnered with IoT.nxt to improve data collection and analytics within Fujitsu’s high-productivity application PaaS (hpaPaaS) and to automate operational processes. The partnership will improve Fujitsu’s ability to collect and analyze data from various devices and sensors by standardizing and filtering data.
