Job Title/Reporting to

Technical Architect with one of the following grade levels:
  • Junior Technical Architect
  • Intermediate Technical Architect
  • Senior Technical Architect
Technical Architects report to the Lead Technical Architect.  

Job Purpose

The Technical Architect is responsible for reviewing the target architecture vision and roadmap of the IoT.nxt platform, evaluating, and prioritizing roadmap items for platforms deployed globally, and translating them into designs and non-functional requirements for the Product Engineering team.  As a Software Architect the role requires an individual that has  the capability of designing software architecture specifications that enable developers to develop services, integrations or products. This role requires excellent technical management and communication skills. Technical Solutions Architect is also responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of the enterprise's overall systems. Defines system solutions based on user/client needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms. In addition, this job is focused toward being the fundamental layer between the Delivery and Product Engineering business units within the organisation. The purpose is to implement best practices, processes and manage the technical delivery of large initiatives as well as general sell through in the business. Define the architecture, standards, and methodologies in accordance with industry best practices. Ensure the good functioning of the Architecting Process. Serve as the high-level designer of the systems to be implemented. Establish the basic structure of the system, defining the essential core design features and elements that provide the framework for all that follows. Provide the architects view of the users' vision for what the system needs to be and do, and the paths along which it must be able to evolve and strive to maintain the integrity of that vision as it evolves during detailed design and implementation.  

Key Result Areas (Major Accountabilities)

  • Creates and leads the process of integrating IT systems for them to meet an organization’s requirements.
  • Conducts a system architecture evaluation and collaborates with project management and product development teams to improve the architecture.
  • Evaluates project constraints to find alternatives, alleviate risks, and perform process re-engineering if required.
  • Updates stakeholders on the status of product development processes and budgets.
  • Notifies stakeholders about any issues connected to the architecture.
  • Fixes technical issues as they arise.
  • Analyses the business impact that certain technical choices may have on a client’s business processes.
  • Supervises and guides development teams.
  • Continuously researches emerging technologies and proposes changes to the existing architecture.
  • Continuously transfers knowledge within the team.
  • Adhere to enterprise architecture standards, procedures, policies.
  • Match system requirements with IT strategy and objectives.
  • Balance system properties with internal design properties.
  • Balance stakeholder needs with system context, during the entire system life cycle.
  • Manage consistency across the various organizational and design boundaries.
  • Maintain repository of systems architecture artefacts

  • Develop systems architectures containing logical models of the components and interfaces involved.
  • Produce detailed component specifications from systems architectures, taking into consideration the intended uses of the architectures as a whole.

Professional Experience:

  • Extensive exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
  • Experience in business capability modelling and technical and solution architecture
  • Experience and knowledge of digital and Telecommunications industries strongly preferred

  • In depth technical knowledge of application functionality and architecture.
  • Recognised for expertise depth that sets a standard across IoT.nxt and other external benchmarks.
  • Expert understanding of the commercial processes relevant to the capability.
  • Champion / evangelist for best practices and adoption of new / emerging technologies across the department, ensuring the right tools and technologies are used, and cost of change is minimised.
  • Is considered a key expert and influencer - not only to Expert Engineers / Architects across multiple regions within IoT.nxt but is also a public face of IoT.nxt.  Evangelises the use of technology, an MVP professional, potentially published and has broad experience outside of their immediate domain.
  • Has a good understanding of the broader IoT.nxt business, the importance of global technology relevance / trends and awareness of appropriate technologies that would suit our varying customer bases.

Educational Background:

  • Degree in Computer Science; Information Systems; Systems Analysis, Engineering preferred
