Reflecting on my five-year journey with IoT.nxt, I’m reminded of how telephones have evolved over the last 50 years. Growing up, I remember my grandmother using a wind-up phone on a shared line, the ingenuity of rigging payphones with a safety pin as a student, the first Nokia “bricks,” and now smartphones that outclass the university mainframes of my youth. The pace and scale of innovation have been nothing short of transformative.
In much the same way, the past five years at IoT.nxt have seen staggering growth and change. We’ve transitioned from an innovation-focused organisation to a customer-centric one. Where we once aimed to provide solutions for everyone, we’re now honing in on a specific set of customer needs, and most recently, shifting from solutions-driven offerings to product-centric ones. This evolution in focus naturally brings shifts in our team composition, with new roles, new expertise, and a new approach to what we do.
This level of transformation might sound chaotic, but it’s a hallmark of tech companies at the cutting edge, where adapting to shifting market demands and customer expectations is essential. It requires people who not only embrace change but thrive in it, backed by a leadership team skilled in navigating rapid transitions. Finding the right talent for such an environment isn’t easy; we look for people who are technically adept, resilient to constant change, multi-skilled, independent yet collaborative, and creative problem solvers.
Over these years, I’ve seen us innovate across a range of technologies—from Micro Raptors and Raptor to Commander, VRaptor, and BI tools like Oqlis and BI Navigator. Our processes have evolved too, moving from a siloed approach to our current Tribe model, and from individually managed projects to a structured Project Office with a defined WAVE methodology, guided by a Chief Programme Officer.
Just as telephone technology once transformed communication, the IoT field—and IoT.nxt by extension—is evolving at a pace that’s difficult to fully grasp. The integration of AI to process the vast data ingested by IoT systems will empower businesses to make faster, more informed decisions. By combining these insights with operational data, online trends, and human expertise, IoT.nxt is positioning itself at the forefront of this revolution. It’s an exciting time to be in tech, especially at a company that’s helping shape the future of IoT.
I can’t help but feel a bit envious of the new generation entering this space today. They’ll witness changes that will be mind-blowing, experiencing innovations over the next few decades that are unimaginable now. From my perspective, we’re still in the early stages, akin to the payphone era of IoT.
The latest development in the IoT.nxt journey, transitioning from a monolithic to a microservices architecture, represents a significant leap forward. This move will enable us to scale our offerings and enhance customer support exponentially, marking an exciting new chapter for IoT.nxt. Our new product strategy, combined with the shift to a microservices architecture and the integration of AI capabilities (AIoT), will be a game-changer for IoT.nxt. By moving to a product-focused approach, we’re able to deliver more targeted, scalable solutions that directly address specific customer challenges. The microservices architecture provides the flexibility and agility to quickly adapt and expand our offerings, allowing for more seamless updates and customization. This, in turn, means we can deliver faster, more reliable service to our customers while reducing operational complexity. The integration of AI into our IoT platform—creating an AIoT ecosystem—will unlock unprecedented analytical and predictive capabilities, enabling real-time insights and automation that empower our customers to make proactive, data-driven decisions. As AI continues to learn and adapt, our platform will deliver deeper insights, enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and driving transformative business outcomes. This evolution will position IoT.nxt not just as a technology provider but as a critical enabler of digital transformation, giving our clients the tools to stay competitive and future-ready.
